LIVE SOUND INTERVENTION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CHIOS MUSIC FESTIVAL

FRI 6 AUG, 19:30
Old Slaughterhouse of Chios

The Chios Music Festival collaborates for the first time with the organisation DEO, creating the conditions for the development of a lively dialogue between visual arts and music. FAWDA will make a musical intervention in the art exhibition of the Brazilian artist Paulo Nimer Pjota at the Old Slaughterhouse of Chios, performing traditional melodies from the ritual repertoire of Moroccan “Gnawa”. The aim is to create an audio-visual experience, allowing for reinterpretations and new connections to the contemporary identity of the land.

FAWDA (the Arabic word for chaos) is a band that emerged in Bologna in 2011, with the meeting of Fabrizio Puglisi, Danilo Mineo and Reda Zine. The three eager musicians search for the common ground between electronic, contemporary jazz and Moroccan “Gnawa”. It is a music genre associated with the deep and warm sound of the guembrì, a traditional three-stringed instrument, example of a primordial musical culture, associated with the therapeutic role of music and ecstasy.
